Showcasing some of the most beautiful scenery in the West Country, the West Somerset Railway provides unique insight into England's industrial heritage. The railway gives visitors the opportunity to take a nostalgic journey through 10 historic stations, taken in from one of it's magnificent and fully restored steam locomotives.
West Somerset Railway was looking at installing a LIVE web stream to showcase the historic steam locomotives at Minehead station, but with many of the station buildings subject to listed status, authorities had understandable concerns about the addition of modern technological equipment.
FiNETra supplied the perfect solution. By simply replacing the existing, fixed CCTV camera with a LIVE web camera, fiNETra was able to stream the compelling LIVE action of the historic steam locomotives arriving and departing the station with no need for additional technical equipment. FiNETra was also able to fulfil the ongoing requirement for CCTV by continuing to stream images to a separate CCTV viewing device.
"The solution fiNETra provided was brilliant. We wanted a compelling way to showcase our steam locomotives on the web whilst keeping within the listed status of our station buildings and fiNETra delivered exactly that."
Paul Conibeare – General Manager, West Somerset Rail
"It's great using the webcams. I kept watching during Royal Scots visit for the Steam gala and I'm watching again now for Tornado. I think more lines should include webcams at stations!"
